James Bellringer, who has been doing the majority of vaginoplasty work for Charing Cross Hospital has resigned.

Jill Jacobson, endocrinologist, Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas – treating 28 trans children.

Maud Belanger, Montreal surgeon who does operations for British Columbia's Medical Services Plan notes that it is odd that in the two years since the lifting of the funding ban, they have provided 67
MTF surgeries but zero FTM.

Peter Walker, New Zealand's only sex change surgeon, retired.

Clinics:

Aedan Wolton, a caseworker at the UK’s only transgender-led sexual health and wellbeing clinic.

VUmc, the largest provider of transgender care in the Netherlands and the only hospital offering transgender surgery ceased doing so citing insurance concerns.

Hospital Las Higueras de Talcahuano is the only one in Chile providing transgender treatment.

Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, has limited theatre time and a shortage of specialists, but has 148 patients waiting for transgender surgery, some of whom may wait 15-20 years.

Irish Health Service Executive paid for 22 public patients to have transgender surgery 1999-2010, and a further 27 since.

Reconstructive Unit Genito-Urinary and Sexual (URGUS), at the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra, Portugal, set up in 2011. Since then 13 FTM and 5 MTF reassignments.

Fred Hollows Foundation organized first free eye clinic for trans women in Bangladesh.

Legal issues:

Director (also trans) of Minatogawa clinic in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, committed suicide after police decided that death of trans man who died during breast-reduction surgery was medical malpractice.













H.C., Turkey, following transgender surgery, visited Dr. Fatma Hut at the Reşat Berger Hospital in order to get her prescriptions filled. Dr. Fatma Hut denied H.Ç. her right to medical care and refused to prescribe medications that were necessary for H.Ç’s treatment following her surgery, arguing: “You are a man, I do not condone your situation, I will not examine you". Afterwards, Dr. Hut had filed a criminal complaint against H.Ç., arguing that she had insulted her. H.Ç. and her lawyer filed their complaint against the doctor that same day.

Naya Taylor, Illinois, suing doctor's office that refused treatment.


Medicine & Genetics


A report of a 1779 sex-change surgery.

NHS Scotland sent an open email chain to transgender patients, advertising a new service – that is not using BCC.

US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced that it would remove the provision requiring Federal Employment Health Benefits (FEHB) providers to exclude transition-related care for transgender federal employees.

Medi-Cal expansion incorporates trans patients.

New York City has had a program since 2010 that provides transgender surgery for those without insurance. The second beneficiary, a 21-year-old in foster care, had the surgery in January.

District of Columbia required that its insurance plans must cover transgender health care.

Anne Kelly, 45, Charleston lawyer, is transitioning.

Lawyer Fawzia Janahi has obtained legal permission for two Bahraini trans men to undergo surgery abroad and be legally recognized on return.

Katie Sprinkle, ex-public defender, Dallas County, Texas, now has her own law firm. Hosts free legal clinics for trans persons.

Nikki Araguz, the appellate court voided the state district court judge's summary judgment in favor of Thomas Araguz's parents and ordered the case returned to the original courtroom for further litigation.

Robina Asti, 92, transitioned 1976, pilot, denied survivor benefits after her husband died.

California bans gay or trans 'panic' defenses.

A Lebanese woman, born intersex, who had had corrective surgery, but still had male ID, was charged with her husband of 'unnatural sexual intercourse'. Judge Naji al-Dahdah threw out the case citing a 2009 ruling by Judge Mounir Suleiman that consensual homosexual relations were not against nature and could therefore not be prosecuted under Article 534. Suleiman found in 2009 that, ‘man is part of nature and is one of its elements, so it cannot be said that any one of his practices or any one of his behaviors goes against nature, even if it is criminal behaviour, because it is nature’s ruling.’

Donna Perry's pre-transition self, Doug, killed 3 prostitutes in Spokane, Washington in 1990. The trial continues.

Jacobus Marinu (Mark) van Nierop, 50, wanted for dental mutilation in France, arrested in New Brunswick, admitted killing his wife in the Netherlands, claims to be transgender.

Janaie Jones, 27, who performed as Kryzie King, charged with starving, torturing and killing a 4 year old whose father was in prison.

Lynn Edward Benton, ex-cop, Oregon, is charged with the murder of his ex-wife. Trial scheduled for 2015.

Lynnsey Evakarla Braun, 32, Sacramento, shot dead a man on a train.

Melissa Cae, 51, who started transition after being in the UK army in Northern Ireland where three friends were killed, repeatedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy in Porthcawl in Northern Ireland. Now sentenced to 7 years.

Melisa Young, 37, Edinburgh, killed a neighbour Christmas Day 2013 after he rejected her Christmas present. She was on 14 prescription drugs, inhaled solvents daily, drank to excess and had smoked heroin the morning before the alleged murder. She described seeing a very bright light and voices in her head when she “flipped” and stabbed her friend. She has been tried and is now jailed for life.

Sri Lankan fled to Thailand after a murder, transitioned with surgery, arrested for murder of a security guard after return to Moratuwa.

Death resulting from Silicone Injections

Armani Nicole-Davenport, 32, Dallas, pageant winner, is accused of homicide.

Alejandra Aguilera-Ortega, Sacramento, is accused of homicide.

Black Madam, Padge Windslowe, charged with killing Briton Claudia Aderotimi, (see 2011) is still on remand being unable to pay 10% of her $10 million bail, and her trial is scheduled for February 2015.

Tracey Lynn Garner, US Georgia, convicted of depraved-heart murder.

Yessica Betancur Gomez, Colombia, charged with manslaughter.


Murdered Trans persons


Andrea Quintero from Colombia was murdered in Rome, July 2013, and her body left in the morgue. In January 2014 a priest at Chiesa Del Gesu, one of the most prominent Jesuit churches in Rome arranged a Catholic funeral, persuaded government officials and the mayor to attend, and referred to her throughout as 'she'.
226 murders of trans persons were recorded in 2014, and many more died without being recorded. These are but a small sample.

Joy Añonuevo (1958 – 2014) Quezon City bar owner stabbed 33 times.

Yaz'min Shancez (1983 – 2014) Fort Myers, Florida, shot and burned to death. Acquaintance Terry Brady arrested.

Neelam (1985 – 2013) Mumbai, fell between train and platform while fleeing hooligans, lost a leg, and bled to death from lack of care.

Figen (? - 2014) suicide by jumping into the sea in August after being tortured by the police in July.

Mayang Prasetyo (1987 – 2014) Indonesian married to an Australian chef in Brisbane who killed and partially cooked her.

Çağla Joker (1988 – 2014) Istanbul, killed by 2 teenagers. Ambulance team refused to help, or to carry her body.

Jennifer Laude Sueselbeck (1988 – 2014) murdered by a US Marine in Olongapo, Philippines.

Mia Henderson (1988 – 2014) Baltimore, sister of Reggie Bullock, basketball star.

"Joseph" Sanchez (1995 – 2014) Belize City pageant winner stabbed by thieves.

Gabriel Fernandez (2006 – 2014) Los Angeles, beat to death after eight months of torture by his parents for playing with dolls.

Walter Williams pled guilty to one offence and is facing <5 years in prison.


Students:

At North Carolina Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), Andraya Williams was detained by a school guard on leaving the women's restroom despite showing her female id card, and next day suspended for "not presenting her ID to the guards".

At George Fox University, Oregon, Jaycen denied the right to live with his friends in a male dorm.

Karine Espineira obtained a PhD at the University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis in Information Science and Communication.


Institutions: 

California schools adjusting to new law to treat students according to gender identity.

Delhi University introduced third gender category on its post-graduate application form.

Downey Unified School District, California, has settled a government claim that it discriminated against a transgender student.

University of Houston passed the Josephine Tittsworth Act, which allows students, faculty and staff “to apply their preferred first name, title and personally discerned gender in all standard forms of documentation or record keeping”.

Mills College, California, became the first higher education, all-female institution in the US to consider an application from any individual who self-identifies as a woman.

Northwestern University has 50 beds available for gender-open housing, but other problems remain.

At Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, protests continued against the continuing exclusion of transsexuals.

Spring Arbor University in Michigan and Simpson University in California granted the right by the US Department of Education to expel trans students. Spring Arbor also sought and was granted the right to expel gay and lesbian students.

TransTech, to equip people with a technical skill set for survival.

Vancouver School Board now allows trans students to dress, within existing school rules, according to their self-identified gender and to be called by a name or pronoun that matches their identity.


Cops & Military


A Greek police officer hoping to continue in the job after transition to male.

Amanda McKay, ex-soldier, ex-cop, Glasgow, 51, transitioned.

Bradley Robert, Nevada, school district police officer, humiliating comments after transition, and told to use women's restroom, passed over for promotion.

Debbie Vincent, 52, ex-army, activist with Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) group against Cambridge-based Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) was jailed for six years.

Deborah Perry, 47, bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan.

Francesca Quaranta, 46, police officer in Connecticut, filed a complaint in 2013 against the department saying they had created a hostile work environment. Faith Jackson, the city's human relations director, says not so.

Helen Doe, 52, of the Croydon Trans Group and employed by the Metropolitan Police Uniform Services, charged with attempted murder of her brother.

Nangai, 24, Chennai, was terminated from police training when a medical outed her as trans. However she got a writ from a judge that she was to be accepted.

Ruth Rose, 81, ex-RAF, oldest person in UK to have transgender surgery.

Tamara Lusardi, disabled, civilian US Army employee won a discrimination suit.



Imprisonment


Rikers Jail, New York to re-open gay-trans unit (previous version closed in 2005).

The Gay wing of the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail.

New Zealand, which has only 9 trans prisoners in its system allows inmates to be moved to jails of their identified gender, except for those facing or serving sexual offence charges.

93 days in a Turkish Transvestite ward.



Avsa on 64 days hunger strike after sexual harassment and violence.

CeCe McDonald, sentenced in 2012 to 41 months, for self-defense, in a Minnesota men's prison was released. More

Chelsea Manning petitioned for a legal name change, but was refused medical care.

Eisha Love, 26, Cook County, Illinois, forced into self-defense and now charged with murder.

"Jane Doe", under 16, has been held for nearly a year in a male detention center, despite having no pending criminal charges, forced to wear male clothing, and repeatedly referred to by her male name and male pronouns. She is now suing.

Michelle Kosilek, 65, Appeals Court affirmed previous judgement transgender inmates have a constitutional right to access transition-related care, including gender-confirming surgeries.

Kristina Olvera, 26, Oregon, 28 months for stealing 9 pairs of jeans, had been taking estrogen and living as a woman, but Oregon DOC will not let her do so while incarcerated.

Lakisha Short, serving 55 years for first-degree robbery and as a habitual offender, wishes to change his name to Kai. However Delaware law permits name changes only for religious reasons.

Marichuy, 23, held for over a year in immigrant detention center in Phoenix, Arizona, was raped by her cellmate.

Ophelia De’Lonta, has served 34 of 73 years for bank robbery, Virginia, who had sued for transgender surgery in 2011, was granted parole. "the possibility of a court forcing the state to pay for an inmate’s sex-change operation was not a factor in the parole decision" !

Paris Green, convicted of murder and approved for transgender surgery, was discovered having sex at Scotland's Cornton Vale women's prison, and was moved to the women's section of Edinburgh's Saughton prison.

Synthia China-Blast is serving a life sentence for the murder of 13-year-old Ebont Williams in 1993, although it is likely that she is a patsy. The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) focused on Synthia China-Blast as part of its project of ending the practice of isolating trans prisoners in solitary. The SRLP asked Laverne Cox to read a letter from Synthia China-Blast on video, but did not share details with her about the murder of Ebony Williams. When apprised of the details, Laverne Cox, asked for the video to be removed.

Whitney Lee, 36, lived as a woman since was 18, Ohio, serving 3 years for forgery and theft, not allowed continuance of hormones, sued, judge ordered resumption.

Zahara Green, convicted of shop lifting, was placed by Georgia Department of Corrections in a men's prison. She was repeatedly raped by a gang member who considered her to be his property. She applied for protective custody to get away from him, but her rapist was moved to protective custody at the same time and put in the same cell.



Homeless shelters


Alexis, Los Angeles, advocating for a Transsexual Empowerment Shelter.

Christopher Hambrook, 37, Toronto, falsely claimed to be trans and attempted rape while in a women's shelter. Now in a men's jail indefinitely.

Finn, homeless in Vancouver.

Jodielynn Wiley, Dallas, refused by Salvation Army.


Nemeses


"Now one of the things I find puzzling about it is that, when I look at the House of Lords debate on this legislation, those I agree with most are the radical right. Particularly the person I find that I agree with most, in here, and I’m not sure he will be pleased to find this, is Norman Tebbitt… Tebbitt also says that the savage mutilation of transgenderism, we would say if it was taking place in other cultures apart from the culture of Britain, was a harmful cultural practice, and how come we’re not recognising that in the British Isles." - Sheila Jeffreys, PhD, author, lecturer & academic, speaking at the Andrea Dworkin Commemorative Conference given at Oxford University’s Centre for the Study of Justice.

Sheila Jeffreys on ABC Radio’s Sunday Night Safran in February: “Transgenderism for men is about the right to imitate and pretend to be members of the subordinate class even though they are members of – biologically and were brought up in – the superior class. That was problematic for the black and white minstrels. It’s problematic generally when a group of people claim to be another group of subordinate people.”


Ernest Istook, former Oklahoma Republican Congressman: the transgender movement is nothing more than government propaganda.

Gavin McInnes was asked to leave the ad agency that he co-founded after publishing "Transphobia Is Perfectly Natural". He stands by his views. He was defended by trans woman Justine Tunney.

Jorge Lanata mocked Argentina's Gender Identity Law on his radio show and in particular attacked Florence de la V.

Julia Gasper, ex-UKIP candidate and chair claimed that the party is plagued with grotesque transsexuals referring to Nikki Sinclaire and Kellie Maloney.

Julie Burchill wrote some comments in a piece by Paris Lees, deleted them and apologized. Later in the year she attacked her local lesbian rabbi.

Keith Ablow, Fox News, "I don't see anything but toxicity from the notion of a person with female anatomy feeling free to use the urinal in the boys' rest room while a boy stands next to her and uses one, too. Governor Brown is one of the liberal politicians in the world who wants to sell people on the idea that he loves freedom when he is actually addicted to disempowering people." More.

Norman Tebbit, writing in the Daily Telegraph, 19 February 2014: "Who would feel safer if just before take-off the pilot of the airliner told the passengers that she had been promoted to command because they needed more transsexual Muslim captains to meet the airline's inclusivity target?"

Paul McHugh had an article published in The Wall Street Journal where he still repeated that being 'transgendered' is a mental disorder like anorexia or bulimia.

Phil Burress, head of Citizens for Community Values in Ohio, said that a proposal to expand Cleveland’s nondiscrimination ordinance to include protections for transgender people would allow “mentally disturbed” people to “be around women and girls in a women’s restroom".

Peter LaBarbera, Americans for Truth about Homosexuality: "“I have seen healthy young girls in their twenties with their healthy breasts removed to appear like men. Now imagine that. I saw that on stage at a so-called transgender conference a long time ago – this was in DC – and it was just shocking to me. These doctors who perform these operations — this should be illegal — these guys need to go to jail. This is almost the most analogous thing to the abortionist on that issue I can think of: these doctors exploiting these gender-confused individuals and making money off of them. Imagine a woman in her twenties who thinks she wants to be a man so she doesn’t want her breasts, and to have them removed; isn’t that awful? To pay for [that] as taxpayers [is] shocking.”

Toronto School Board trustee Sam Sotiropoulos tweeted that he "reserve[s] the right to not believe" in transgender identity until it is "scientifically proven" that trans people are not "mentally ill". When Global News interviewed him he backtracked.

The Family Research Council’s Peter Sprigg and Craig James  have called for an amendment to the US constitution to ban legal recognition of trans people.

      Tiwonge Chimbalanga from Malawi, was in the news in December 2009 when she and her boyfriend were sentenced to 14 years hard labour for “carnal knowledge against the order of nature” - the first such sentence since independence. They were adopted by Amnesty, and after a presidential pardon, Tiwonge was brought to South Africa, where she lives in a Malawian community near Cape Town.

      An apparent suicide attack on Muhammadu Buhari, military ruler of Nigeria 1983-85, was blamed on an unnamed trans woman who was found nearby.


      Americas:
      A trans woman was held and enslaved by three Louisiana residents and has now been rescued by the local sheriff.

      Ailén Noemí Chambi, first surgical transsexual in Jujay province, Argentina, died 26 October, but death certificate was in her male name, and confusion, perhaps discrimination at the funeral home. An investigation proceeds.

      Monica Jones, Phoenix, Arizona, arrested and found guilty of 'manifesting prostitution' after accepting a ride to a bar from two undercover cops. Because of this conviction she was denied entry into Australia because she was considered a possible threat.

      Eliana Rubashkyn, from Colombia, studying for an MBA in Health Administration in Taiwan on a government scholarship, had to go to Hong Kong, the nearest Colombia consulate to renew her passport. Hong Kong officials refused to let her in until a fuss was made by local LGBT groups. A conditional release was secured for Eliana by the Colombian consulate – which meant that she would have to return to Colombia, which she had fled after two murder attempts. Eliana thus filed a refugee claim with the local UNHCR office, which was granted in 12 days rather the usual years. She has been allowed to immigrate to New Zealand.

      Ikki Jin, Tokyo, arrested for drugging and robbing several men.

      Karen Mke, 38, and Kamilla Satto, 33, hairdressers from Amazonas, Brazil, were detained in Dubai for “imitation of women by men”.

      Liu Ting, 28, previously named a 'National Moral Model' for looking after mother who suffers with uremia, wrote an autobiographic screenplay, and came out as trans.

      Chelsea Attonley, 30, was drag performer as Miss Malibu, had surgery on NHS 7 years ago, now finds heels and make-up exhausting, and wants NHS to pay for a reversal.

      Christie Elan-Cane, a non-gendered activist, has campaigned for 20 years for non gender-specific X passports and the rights of individuals who identify as neither male nor female.

      Saolele Tauialo Pelu, 45, Samoan, convicted of indecency and sex attacks on boys was to be deported – but has been given a chance to stay in New Zealand so she can complete transition.
